Free Responsive Tumblr Theme

Highly Customizable Responsive Tumblr Theme

Over the past few weeks I’ve been working on and off on a new theme for my Tumblr, and I thought now I’ve finished it, I should release the source code so anyone can use it.

Source Code:

How to install:

  • Copy the code above
  • Go to your Tumblr page
  • Press the customize button in the top right
  • Click “Edit HTML”
  • Remove all code that’s in there, and paste the new code in there

The colours I use on mine are, at the time of writing this (I may change the colours in the future), quite bland. However, all colours are customizable to your preference.

Want to have your description and custom links visible? You can do that. Don’t want infinite scrolling? Just disable it. Want it to give you cookies? Erm… it’s not that advanced.

You’ll notice on my Tumblr that the dates are in DD/MM/YYYY format, however if you are a heathen and use MM/DD/YYYY or prefer YYYY-MM-DD, you can change these to whatever your preference is.

Preview

Below you will find a preview of my Tumblr using this theme.

WARNING: My Tumblr is very anime heavy

Blackwake – A Swashbuckling Good Time!

Whether yer a scurvy dog, or a member of her majesty’s finest fleet, you’re sure to have a good time in the frantic sea battles no matter who you play.

Set sail on the ships of time gone by as you play as either the Navy or Pirates fighting for supremacy aboard either a Hoy or a Galleon using everything you have in your arsenal, but make sure not to waste a shot as your supplies run out faster than you think. Jump into Blackwake, and rule the seas.

Blackwake

Blackwake is a multiplayer naval FPS focused on teamwork and cooperation. Fire the cannons, sink enemy ships or board them with firearms and steel.

Current price on Steam:
£14.99(GBP)
€19.99(EUR)
$19.99(USD)

The Teams

Unfortunately, the teams are balanced very well (assuming the players on either side are of equal skill) which, as a Brit, upsets me as the Royal Navy was arguably the strongest naval force at the time the game is set. Pirates should not be able to out-match the navy, however the game is forgiven due to it’s wonderful tea drinking mechanics, and just how smooth the game is in general.

The Gameplay

Apart from the distraught you feel as you try to drink your tea but can’t because the ship’s fully submersed, you will find yourself enjoying even the most boring of jobs.

Whether you are designated sail repairer, or supply runner, you will still find yourself thrust into the action as your ship comes under fire – or worse invasion, as you need to patch the holes, and replace the man who is now splattered across the poop deck.

Or maybe you’re lucky and become the captain, you will find yourself barking out orders while steering your ship to attempt a broadside on the enemy. But be warned, if you aren’t ordering your men, or you leave the ship dead in the water your crew can, and usually will, start a mutiny… and you thought that was only for pirates.

The ships are a different kettle of fish however. The Galleon is by far the superior ship, and you will want to be aboard one if you want to live. The Hoy are frail and are lucky to survive if a Galleon can get a broadside on you, and hit every shot.

Grabbing supplies is a little janky, and the sword seems to miss more than it hits, even when you are 100% certain you hit the enemy. The accuracy of the guns is realistic (if you hit, then you are lucky), so I can’t really complain about their terrible accuracy. But the mechanics of the ships, and how they manoeuvre is excellent.

The Graphics

As a player with an AMD graphics card, I must say the choice of making the sea a disco was a bold move but enabling the “workaround” settings does make the game playable and less blinding to look at.

Besides the odd visual bug, which I would expect of an alpha game, the graphics of this game are not bad at all. They aren’t AAA level, but you can’t expect that. If you only play a game for graphics, then just look at the water, and ignore the people as the water is stunning, the player models are a little less so.

This is my first game review on this website, and I am hoping to do a lot more in the future. If you would like me to review a specific game, then leave it in the comment section below, and if I own it/have played it then I will possibly do a review of it.

I’ve been playing with some APIs, as you may have noticed

Over the past few weeks I have started playing with APIs both at work, and in my own time, for a little bit of fun. And I’ve even added some to this site, and both were a little more annoying than expected to get to work correctly, so I thought I should share how I did it, in case anyone else wants to do something similar.

The first of the 2 integrations which are currently visible on the site is the Steam integration

I may include a more detailed Steam overview page, detailing everything the Steam API allows me to offer, however for now it is just the logo which gives 3 lots of information, 2 of them in subtle ways.

The background of the icon will change depending on 2 things, if I am online and if I am in a game.

The background will have around 1/3 of it red when I am not online, 1/3 green when online, and 2/3 green when online and in game.

Also, when in game, you can see the game being played by hovering over the icon.

If you want to include this feature on your own site, you can use the code provided below. WARNING – It uses PHP, you could use Javascript, but I like PHP, don’t judge!

CSS
#steam-wrapper{position:absolute;right:0;}
.steam-rel{position:relative;}
#steamlogo {

}

$obj = json_decode($json);
echo $obj->players->personastate;
foreach($obj->response->players as $items){
	if($items->personastate !== "0"){
		$online = "#1E824C";
	}else{
		$online = "#C0392B";
	}
	if(strlen($items->gameid)>1){
		$playing = "#1E824C";$game= $items->gameextrainfo;
	}else{
		$playing = "#bbb9b7";$game="Not in game";
	}
	$steambackground = 'background-color: #bbb9b7;background: #bbb9b7;background: -webkit-linear-gradient(#bbb9b7, '.$playing.', '.$online.');background: -o-linear-gradient(#bbb9b7, '.$playing.', '.$online.');background: -moz-linear-gradient(#bbb9b7, '.$playing.', '.$online.');background: linear-gradient(#bbb9b7, '.$playing.', '.$online.');';
	echo '<div id="steamlogo" style="background:'.$steambackground.'">'.'<i class="fa fa-steam" aria-hidden="true"></i>'."</div><div id='steaminfo'>".$game.'</div>';
	}
?>

The next is the YouTube feed

There’s no way in hell I’d be able to keep that section up to date, as I am extremely forgetful, so I use the code below to list the most recent 12 videos from my channel

<?php
$json = file_get_contents('https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/search?part=id&channelId=UCTXsgAEmPwpXX5cjT-JJw8Q&maxResults=12&order=date&key=!!!YOURAPIKEY!!!');
$obj = json_decode($json);
foreach($obj->items as $items){
	echo '<div style="display:inline-block;max-width:350px;margin-right:8px;"><iframe width="312" height="178" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/'.$items->id->videoId.'" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>';
} ?>

I will possibly be adding Twitch, and maybe other, integrations on this site in the near future. I will update this post if more are added.

After a long time away from YouTube, it’s time to return

On Sunday I uploaded my first YouTube video in months, and this sparks the return of regular uploads – not daily for now.

After finding myself bored a lot more during my free time, I’ve decided that YouTube is a great way to fill the time.

Currently I am planning on doing 2 videos a week; every Wednesday and Sunday, with videos rotating around different series.

The current series I have started recording are American Truck Simulator, and Planet Coaster. However, I would like to start doing a few other series, possibly Minecraft and Pokemon, which is what the bulk of my channel used to be, and what a lot of people subscribed to me for, but possibly other games too.

If you like Battlefield 1 though, you can view the first video of 2017 – footage from Back to Basics match, with live commentary.

I have decided I will spend a lot more time editing videos, and I feel this style of video is a lot better than my old “upload everything” style.

Don’t forget to subscribe to me on YouTube if you want to keep up to date on all these changes

Happy Holidays to all who have been celebrating

Let’s face it, 2016 has been a bit of a crap year. From Trump becoming president, to Toblerones becoming a little more spaced out. But fear not, it’s the last week of the year, and one of the 2 family holidays is out of the way.

Christmas just isn’t my thing

I loathe holidays which are pretty much forced family gatherings. The holidays are meant to be a time for families to get together, have a laugh, and do what they do.

Maybe I’m just getting a little too old to enjoy Christmas. Or maybe living alone has made me understand how little I like family gatherings.

2-3 hours is the maximum a person should have to spend with their relatives, against their will. If you go to see your family, and want to stay the night, kudos, but I don’t see why you would want to.

Maybe my family is just quite boring, maybe it’s just me. Who knows? All I know is, is that I am not a fan of social gatherings, and Christmas kills me.

No really. I had to leave my parents’ early as my allergies to their dogs were causing me a lot of discomfort, my nose is still killing me 3 days later, and there’s still New Years’ Eve to look forward to.

New Years’ Eve

The most pointless reason to induce a shit-tonne of alcohol. Beer, wine, champers. Whatever it is that people are drinking on the uneventful night, it just doesn’t make any sense. Why would you end a year/start a new one as drunk as can be?

When I was a whippersnapper, I used to try my absolute best to stay up until midnight. But now, I don’t see the point. If there’s a reason to stay awake past midnight, then so be it, but if not it’s bedtime as usual.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and everyone got what they wanted.

As for 2017, I think we can all agree we’re in for a bumpy ride. So hold on tight, let’s see if we can ride this shitstorm which is about to unfold.

That blue and red monstrosity is gone!

Although it worked, it didn’t look good.

I haven’t really touched this site in months, and that’s partially because I wanted to move away from WordPress. However, I don’t have a decent alternative that allows me to do the stuff I want to do.

I don’t mind writing in HTML/PHP, having to style everything with CSS, etc. I even had a layout in mind. But it’s a case of making it work easily, and maybe even allow for comments, which will be the hard part.

So for now, it has to be put on hold, while I do other stuff – Like play Hearts of Iron IV (my new gaming love).

With the site no longer looking like bloody Smurf poop, I will probably post a little more often now, so that’s good 🙂.

In other news, I turn the dreaded 21 on Sunday, so I will officially be an old git from then onwards. My back already kills me, and my memory is already hazy. It’s only downhill from then on.

It’s only been a week too

My girlfriend has come to the UK to have a holiday, she’s been here for 2 weeks now, and has almost 6 left, but I can already tell I don’t think I’m ready to give up living alone.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have someone around the house. Someone to talk to when I come home, and to do the things I hate doing when I get home from work, whilst I am at work.

However, I like being able to spread out on the bed, and play games/watch whatever I want, when I want; selfish, I know.

This isn’t me saying I don’t like her, it’s just I’d much rather enjoy living alone for a little while longer, as I only truly finished moving in about 2 weeks before she arrived; not really long enough to get the most out of the solitude of living alone.

I realize that when I wave goodbye to her at the airport, and then get home I will miss her, and probably not want to live alone, at least for a few days.

Once I am back to living alone happily, I need to make the most of it though, because for all that is bad about being alone; doing house work, looking after yourself when sick, etc. I don’t think I’ll ever understand why living alone is the worst thing that you can endure.

Silence is golden, and freedom is bliss.

It’s Just Not Fun Any More

Everything I seem to do becomes boring!

Anyone who follows me on YouTube will remember me saying “I won’t upload a few videos and then disappear again” and then after 3 videos uploads…? Well yeah. But I got bored of FTB Infinity Skyblock and I don’t know what to replace it with yet. I started to edit a Pokemon ROM so that the game could be more progressive, and that you can catch them all without trading. However… I don’t have the time for it at the minute. I’ve started playing some vanilla Minecraft on a server again, I had this great idea of building a massive damn. But… Well… I don’t feel like building it yet. That new website I am working on? It’s in development, but I am struggling to find my creative side at the minute. All of these excuses, and many more, are just that. Excuses. There is no other reason other than that I don’t find them to be as fun as I first thought. I tend to jump into something thinking “this will be great” and after I have done about 10% of the task, I tend to get bored and just give up, or sideline them for an indefinite amount of time. The same goes for this site. Look at how often I post… I would love to be able to change this mentality I have, but I just don’t know where to start.

20 years old and moving into my own place

If only I could afford it

It’s a small flat, about 3x3m – excluding bathroom and kitchen. Which isn’t large, but is enough for me.

However, the one issue which is really worrying me is money. I don’t make nearly enough money to be able to afford to live alone, especially with no savings; as a 20 year old in the UK, on minimum wage, it is pretty hard to actually save a penny let alone a few hundred £.

But there is a positive side to this, I think. The current situation with my YouTube account is that I don’t upload anything, because I am never in the house alone; I won’t record a video when I am in the house with someone. So I may find myself doing more YouTube videos. In addition to this, as I will have a direct connection to the internet, not wifi like I am currently, I may end up doing livestreams occasionally. So anyone who actually likes the stuff I put out their may be glad to hear that news.

 But on the flip-side to this, I may need to take up a part time job during weekends/evenings to help pay for my basic lifestyle. I am not too sure if I will have any money left over at the end of each month, I have budgeted for everything I know I will need to spend, however, I may also want to buy something extra once in a while, whether it’s necessary or for pleasure; e.g. a new pair of shoes for work or go to the cinema one evening. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and I fear that until I get a pay rise (will happen when I turn 21 as minimum wage goes up) or I change jobs (may happen after August) then I will be struggling, financially, quite a bit.

[edit – 25/04/1026]

All moved in, and will probably start recording my first YouTube video in a while when I get home from work.

Hopefully a new site will keep me occupied

On Monday I finalized my Static CMS tool which means I am no longer constrained to WordPress for a simple to use site. However, I will need to design the website, and do a few extra things such as setting up an RSS feed, and adding a comment system. All in all, it won’t be something I expect to get done over night. However, I hope that this will keep me busy, and I hope that due to spending a large amount of time on creating a new site I will be more inclined to do something about it. But there is one thing that will change with a new site, and that’s the overall design. I really don’t like the current design, nor do I want to replicate it. So expect more news on updates to come. And when the new site is about 2/3s the way done, I expect I will move the WordPress site to an old.jordsta95 subdomain, and have a “Coming Soon” page as the homepage on this domain. I may or may not copy over all the current content, it really does depend how I feel about the new site, and what I want from it. But do expect more activity on it, as I would like it to become a blog, but also something I can use for my ventures in the real world, for example “I have just built this site, go take a look” so that site gets a nice backlink but also so if I start looking for a new job in the future, in web design, I can say “here, look at my site for all my previous work”. That’s all for today. I think. There’s a few things I would like to talk about, but I may spread them out over a few days.
